Pussy Pairs

Pussy Pairs, a crowd-funded memory game, trains the brain to celebrate the genital out of which we all came. Uplifting the vulva both in exposure and cause—the game donates a percentage of the proceeds to women’s rights organizations.

Vulvas come in all shapes and sizes. Pussy Pairs (aka Mumury) makes a public exhibition what is often a private revering: the diverse beauty of the vulva. The purpose of the game is to match the paired vulvas, but symbolically, the ambition of project is far-reaching. Pussy Pairs intends to debunk the taboo of the vulva by encouraging an open dialogue about its corporeal diversity. The game is intended for both teenagers in the midst of their sexual education and also adults who are looking to unlearn patriarchal bias that mythologizes the vulva as a uniformly cryptic object.

Gloria Dimmel’s castings

Gloria Dimmel’s castings

The cards of the game are from the genital castings done by Gloria Dimmel, an Austrian artist who finds a moral imperative in shameless body positivity. Dimmel replicated over 130 people for the project, and through an open dialogue and practice, aims to “put an end to heteronomy and objectification through the male gaze…[and have] more self-love and sexual autonomy instead.” For Pussy Pairs, Dimmel partnered with ACHSE Verlag, a publishing company that touts unconventional and experimental projects.

In just one-month, Pussy Pairs crowd-funded over €10,000 and counting. The rewards include the game (available in both German & English), a variety of feminist art, and a personal genital casting by Dimmel. A percentage of the proceeds will be donated to causes for woman’s rights, primarily to organizations which aid the millions of girls subjected to female genital mutilation. The project is up-and-running until April 21st, so support the cause, train your brain, and as the project ingeniously states, “spread the vulva!”
